The Latest In Grime
Discussing the intricate craftsmanship of "Learn From Pain," Squintz wanted to take a more enlightened approach to Grime - a sound that highlights spiritual growth. The three previous projects tackled the ebb-and-flow of inner city life, the good and the bad., “Learn From Pain” is more about overcoming that past adversity and building a brighter future. It’s a message of hope, because if Squintz can do it, then so can you.
Akin to the music within, the “Learn From Pain” cover art holds greater detail the longer you explore it. A visual representation of SQ’s life journey, it features broken fragments, each symbolising pivotal moments that have shaped his life and formed the basis of this project. To the bottom right of the artwork, a bird breaks free from its cage, overcoming the adversity it once faced, and reaching new heights in the process.
Squintz (SQ) is one of UK rap's controlling talents. The London-based artist and producer was recently praised by Complex Magazine for having provided some of the ‘most valuable’ Grime releases in recent years - with 2021s Nuen Aint Gang and 2022s SQ Grime becoming cult favourites in the UK underground.
Perhaps the reason for SQ's underground acclaim is his methodology. In a climate where many musicians exploit trends and pop-culture in an effort to mask mediocracy; SQ instead focuses on journeys of discovery, guiding his followers through listening experiences that tackle the ebb and flow of life in London.
